Juanito "John" Michael Varela, born on October 1, 1947 and passed away May 16, 2017. John passed peacefully at home with his wife, son and daughter by his side. He is preceded in death by his father Pedro Varela, his mother Nancy Lopez and his sister Sandra Trevino. John proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, during which time, he received a Purple Heart and two Air Medals among other medals. Left to cherish his memory is his loving, beautiful wife, Joni, a loving daughter Felicity, and husband Jose, a loving son Matthew, and...

Juanito "John" Michael Varela, born on October 1, 1947 and passed away May 16, 2017. John passed peacefully at home with his wife, son and daughter by his side. He is preceded in death by his father Pedro Varela, his mother Nancy Lopez and his sister Sandra Trevino. John proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, during which time, he received a Purple Heart and two Air Medals among other medals. Left to cherish his memory is his loving, beautiful wife, Joni, a loving daughter Felicity, and husband Jose, a loving son Matthew, and wife Nerissa. Pawpaw loved his grandkids, Brandon, Sabrina, Ivan, Sebastian, Christian, Noah and his two dollar pistol Mallory. He also leaves behind brothers Jesse, Emilio, Raymond and sister Rosemary and numerous relatives, nieces and nephews.

Vigil services will be held from 4pm-7pm on Sunday May 21, 2017 at American Heritage Funeral Home 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038, Funeral Mass will be held on May 22, 2017 at 11am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2730 Nelwood Dr., Houston, TX 77038 followed by a burial at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038. Reception to follow burial service.
